Dr. Haroon Zafar

Programme Manager

Dr Haroon Zafar graduated with Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s (EMJM) degrees in Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices from the University of St Andrews and Heriot-Watt University, and in Photonics Engineering from Ghent University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He received his PhD in Biomedical Physics and Engineering from the University of Galway and a Professional Diploma in Leading Digital Health Transformation from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Dr Zafar has led multiple enterprise–academia projects and Innovation Partnership Programme as Principal Investigator in MedTech innovation and digital health. He has received research and innovation awards from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), the Irish Research Council (IRC), and Enterprise Ireland. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, alongside numerous conference papers and presentations.

Currently, he manages EU-funded research projects and consortia valued at €11 million, including the Horizon Europe health consortium RESTORE VISION and the MSCA Doctoral Network NO-CANCER-NET.
