The Ocular Neurobiology Group (ONG) of the UMH Instituto de Neurociencias (@NeuroAlc):** The ONG studies the morphology and functional activity of sensory nerves from the ocular surface, responsible for sensations and trophic maintenance of the ocular surface. The ONG also investigates mechanisms underlying corneal nerve regeneration.
Using electrophysiological and psychophysical studies, the ONG explores the functional characteristics of trigeminal and brain neurons processing sensory information from the eye surface in health and disease, with a focus on ocular sensations like dryness, discomfort, and pain.
The ONG will contribute to Restore Vision by evaluating the efficacy of novel therapeutic drugs in preclinical models of REDs and investigating the mechanisms of action of the tested compounds.
